LyricsIO ("the Extension") is a Chrome browser extension that displays song lyrics for YouTube music videos. This privacy policy explains how we handle your data.
2. Data We Collect
We do NOT collect:
- Personal information (name, email, etc.)
- Browsing history
- YouTube watch history
- Analytics or tracking data
- Any data for advertising purposes
3. Data Stored Locally
The Extension stores the following data locally on your device using Chrome's storage API:
- User Preferences: Language setting, auto-detect toggle, theme preference, synced overlay toggle
- Cached Lyrics: AI-generated lyrics are cached locally to avoid re-processing the same videos
This data never leaves your device and is not transmitted to any server.
4. External Services
The Extension communicates with the following external services:
LRCLIB (lrclib.net)
Used to fetch verified song lyrics. When you play a YouTube video, we send the song title and artist name to search for lyrics. No personal data is transmitted.
Groq AI API
Used for AI-powered lyrics generation from audio. When you click "AI Generate", audio data from the current video is sent to Groq's servers for transcription. This data is processed in real-time and not stored by Groq according to their privacy policy.
lyrics.ovh
A fallback lyrics API. Only song title and artist name are sent to search for lyrics.
5. Permissions Explained
- activeTab: Required to detect the current YouTube video and inject the lyrics panel
- storage: Required to save your preferences locally
- Host permissions (youtube.com): Required to display lyrics on YouTube pages and capture audio for AI generation
6. Data Security
Since we don't collect personal data, there's minimal security risk. All communication with external APIs uses HTTPS encryption.
7. Children's Privacy
The Extension does not knowingly collect any data from children under 13 years of age.
